Microneedling in Cologne: gentle pricks for radiant skin
Radiantly beautiful and youthful skin is an important beauty feature for many people. Light to moderate wrinkles that are still too minor for conventional wrinkle treatment can therefore be perceived as bothersome.
Microneedling (sometimes also referred to as micro-needling) can smooth out fine lines and refine pores. Acne scars can also be reduced. Micro-needling treatment achieves excellent firming and lifting effects without the need for surgery or the administration of foreign substances such as Botox.
However, caution is advised, as microneedling is not only reserved for medical professionals. Micro-needling treatments are also frequently offered in beauty salons. There are clear differences here compared to medical microneedling.

What is microneedling?
Microneedling is a highly effective, virtually painless skin treatment. Without surgery, a significantly fresher and firmer complexion can be achieved. At the same time, downtime after micro-needling treatment is extremely minimal.
In addition to the face, microneedling can also be used on the décolleté or neck area. Regions where other therapies often achieve little to no results.
Medical micro-needling procedure
A so-called Derma Pen is used for micro-needling treatment. Eleven very fine needles with a penetration depth of between 0.2 and 2.0 mm are attached to its treatment head. The needles, arranged in a semicircle, can extend up to 1,000 times per minute, thereby opening microchannels in the skin. This stimulates collagen and elastin production in the skin. Substances responsible for the elasticity and strength of connective tissue. In addition, after micro-needling treatment, the skin is particularly receptive to rejuvenating active ingredients that can penetrate deep into the skin.
What are the differences between cosmetic and medical microneedling?
Only treatment heads with a maximum penetration depth of 0.5 mm may be used in beauty salons. However, needles with a greater penetration depth achieve better regeneration effects in some areas of the face and thus a better end result.
The penetration depth for optimal results can vary greatly depending on the different parts:
- 1.5 mm in the forehead area
- 2.0 mm for the cheeks
- 2.0 mm for stretch marks at high speed
- 0.5 mm for sensitive areas such as the upper lip or eye area
This also gives it a decisive advantage over other derma rollers. The ability to vary the penetration depth allows the microneedling Derma Pen to adapt optimally to the specific skin area. This allows significantly better results to be achieved.
Microneedling with PRP
In medical microneedling, active ingredients such as vitamins and, if desired, hyaluronic acid are introduced into the skin after the needles have penetrated it. An even more effective option is microneedling with PRP.
PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma, which is blood plasma obtained from the patient’s own blood by centrifugation. In microneedling with blood plasma (PRP), this is then injected back into the middle layers of the skin.
The growth factors contained in blood platelets further accelerate skin regeneration. This not only improves the result, but also significantly reduces the recovery time. While with traditional medical microneedling, the swelling and redness only completely subside after three days, regeneration with microneedling using PRP takes a maximum of 48 hours.
