Thigh Lift – Treatment Procedure
During a thigh lifting, the excess skin and subcutaneous fatty tissue on the thighs, especially on the inner sides, are removed.
Leg lifts are usually performed under general anesthesia. Depending on the extent of the procedure, it can also be performed under local anesthesia, i.e. tumescent local anesthesia.
The method and incision we choose depends on the extent, location and condition of the patient’s skin to be removed. Each surgical procedure is therefore slightly different.
Before the operation, we will conduct a consultation with you and inform you about the procedure and the risks. Then, shortly before the operation, the tissue to be removed is precisely marked and the incision is determined. Depending on the initial situation, the tightening is performed either via a skin incision along the groin to the back of the gluteal fold (C incision) or via a T incision, in which a further incision is made from the groin incision towards the knee on the inside of the thigh. Once the incisions have been made, the excess skin and tissue material is surgically removed. The incision is then sutured up again.
The thigh lift procedure takes two to four hours and an inpatient stay of five days is recommended.
Thigh Lift and Liposuction
As part of a thigh lift, liposuction can also be performed in the same and adjacent areas of the body. This enhances the shaping and tightening effect. If you are interested in this, we will discuss the appropriate treatment options in a personal consultation.
Risks of a Thigh Lift
Every procedure carries a risk. In principle, however, the risk of a thigh lift increases the more skin and tissue has to be removed. We have listed the most significant complications of thigh lifting here:
- Swelling, redness and bruising may occur.
- Wound healing disorders: If the wound does not heal well, the scarring is often more pronounced and more visible.
- Post-operative bleeding may occur at the operated site.
- Some patients experience temporary numbness after a thigh lift. A tingling sensation or numbness may occur in the affected areas.
- In rare cases, a blood clot (thrombosis) forms, which can block a blood vessel and can therefore be life-threatening. To prevent this, you should refrain from smoking after a thigh lift and wear your compression underwear and stockings.
Thigh Lift – Aftercare
How long you need to recover after a thigh lift varies from person to person. Healing depends not only on the type and extent of the operation, but also on how you behave after the procedure. To ensure that you are fully healed as quickly as possible, you should follow these guidelines:
Wear your compression pants for at least six weeks post-operatively and take it easy on your legs. Avoid physical activity / sport for about six weeks. Avoid direct sunlight on the scars for the first six months, as this can discolor the scars and make them more noticeable. Ideally, you should not smoke and avoid alcohol.
